August Studios

These photographs are made in the landscape of the American West. Many of these images do not follow a traditional approach to landscape composition. Often times, I instead choose to focus on a narrow slice of the scene that is before me, focusing on textures and colors. I often use a telephoto lens, which tends to give the appearance of compressed, flattened space. Having traditionally worked as a still life photographer in a controlled studio environment, this two-dimensional approach is evident in these image of the landscape.
